During a press conference introducing her new assault weapons legislation on Capitol Hill today, California Senator Dianne Feinstein said, "The purpose is to dry up the supply of these weapons over time."

Democratic Rep. Carolyn McCarthy had a similar message saying, "If the guns aren't in the stores, they won't be bought."

Feinstein's legislation includes a ban on any weapon with "one military characteristic," and bans the import, export, manufacture, sale and transfer of hundreds of semi-automatic rifles, handguns and some shotguns.
