UCLA Passes Resolution Against Term "Illegal Immigrant"

A student organization at UCLA has passed the “Drop the I Word Resolution” to ban the use of the term “illegal immigrant.”

“Which is stupid,” exclaimed Morning Answer host Ben Shapiro, “because it’s not like the ‘N’ word.  It’s also not like the ‘F’ word… ‘Illegal immigrant’ is what somebody is.  You are an ‘illegal immigrant’ like you are a ‘convicted felon.’”

Later, Shapiro related the story of Lamar Odom’s drunk driving arrest.  He explained at that point, Odom was a “drunk driver” but that didn’t mean he was a three dimensional human being.   “When we attempt to pervert the language such that we are offending people by describing them for what they did, it’s silliness,” commented Ben.

Morning Answer co-host Brian Whitman pointed out that sometimes language evolves to be more sensitive.  He used the example of “illegal alien” becoming “illegal immigrant” and “negro” becoming “black.”
