Firefighters worked to extinguish a major fire in a mixed use commercial building at Santa Monica and Western in Hollywood on Tuesday morning. The fire broke out in the electrical room and attic of the two story structure shortly after 7am.
By 8am, 21 fire companies and 5 ambulences were on scene according to Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Crews were working in "defensive mode" due to the size of the blaze.
The brick building housed a Payless Shoe Source as well as a cellular phone company and a gold and silver exchange shtore.
