Two people are dead after a series of crashes on I-5 in Irvine this morning.
The first crash happened at 4:41am near Culver Dr on the northbound side of the freeway. CHP got reports of a red Mitsubishi that had hit the center divider. When cops got on scene, they found that several other vehicles had crashed in to the first accident.
Officials believe that a person in a silver Acura attemped to help the Mitsubishi driver. That led to the Mitsubishi being hit by a Toyota Camry and that car in to a Nissan Altima.
The Camry then came back across the freeway where it hit a Chevy Astro Van.
Two people inside the Camry died at the scene. Three others were taken to Western Medical Center with "traumatic injuries" according to the Orange County Register.
The identities of the victims has not been released.
