Both police officers charged in the beating of Kelly Thomas have been found not guilty by a jury. The verdict annoucement was read just before 4pm.
Crowds gathered outside the courthouse in Santa Ana along Flower Street before the verdicts were read.
Both Ramos and Cicinelli were fired by the Fullerton Police department a year after the initial incident where they were accused of beating a combative Thomas.
The prosecution had argued that Ramos started the beating when he put on latex gloves and issued a threat while questioning Kelly Thomas. The defense said that officers had followed training and that it was Thomas who caused the confrontation by refusing to follow orders.
An increased police presence has been outside the courtroom following the verdict as angry protesters continue to rally.
