Los Angeles Sheriff Lee Baca says he had no involvement in a program called "Friends of the Sheriff". Accusations of favoritism are flying around the eight year program but Baca says he had no idea there was such a program until recently and claims it's been dismantled. "Friends of the Sheriff" would often be hired even with criminal backgrounds.
The Office of Independent Review released a report in 2009 saying Baca himself actually knows virtually no one on the list. Baca's comments drew sharp criticism from two former high-ranking sheriff's officials who are also candidates for sheriff. Voters will get their chance to choose a side next November.
