Bright lights seen over Southern California on Wednesday night were likely meteors according to the National Weather Service. The agency says that the long lasting meteor streams known as the South Taurids are known for having extremely bright meteors.
The Southern Taurids meteor shower began on September 7th and is expected to run until November 19th. The Northern Taurids is also active. It began on October 19th and is expected to run to December 10th. The American Meteor Society says that when the Northern and Southern Taurids showers run concurrently, "there is sometimes a notable increase in fireball activity."
