Two men are dead after a fatal crash at the 60 and 71 transition road in Pomona.
The collision between a big rig and a box truck happened just before 9am.
Fire Capt. Larry Jordan told the San Gabirel Valley Tribune that the crash was "one of the worst I'd ever seen."
A man in his 40s who was driving the big rig was pronounced dead at the scene, as was the man in his 20s who was riding in the box truck.
All lanes of the freeway were closed shortly to land a medical chopper to take the box truck driver to the hospital.
Officials think that the big rig was stopped on the side of the road when it was struck by the box truck. The box truck was loaded with food products that spilled all over lanes. It appears it was operated by a vending machine company.
As of 1pm, the right lane of the freeway remained closed for the investigation.
Jose Antiono Garcia (25) has been identified as the passenger in the box truck that died. Jorge Garcia (61) was identifed as the driver of the big rig who was killed in the collision.
A CHP report indicates that the box truck drifted on to the shoulder and struck the big rig. The box truck then continued on and struck Jorge Garcia, who was standing next to the vehicle.
