Eric Garcetti will be the next mayor of Los Angeles.
After a grueling night, competitor Wendy Greuel called Garcetti to concede at 1:42am.
Garcetti tweeted "Thank you Los Angeles. The hard work begins but I am honored to lead this city for the next four years. Let's make this a great city again!"
Earlier in the evening, Greuel looked to be slightly ahead by a few hundred votes. Garcetti regained his footing after returns started favoring him after midnight.
Some weren't surprised by Greuel's initial lead as most of the ballots were absentee. Garcetti's political consultant told the Daily News that they anticipated she would do well with early returns.
The city has until June 11 to certify the results.
