Metro Fares Hiked Today

Commuters will start paying more this week to board buses and trains operated by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.  Today one-way Metro bus and rail fares will increase from $1.50 to $1.75 and monthly passes will increase from $75 to $100.  Read more...

Mandatory Evacuations Lifted in Silverado Canyon

People are headed back home after mandatory evacuation orders were lifted in the Silverado Canyon area.  The fire that started Friday has charred around 960 acres, and is now 50 percent contained.  Over 1,400 firefighters are battling the flames, aided by water-dropping helicopters. Read more...

LA County Sheriff's Department Overstates Violent Crimes

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is apparently misclassifying crimes.  An audit of 240 assaults from six sheriff's stations found that department personnel misclassified more than 31 percent of minor assaults as serious offenses.  Read more...
